International Space Station Mission (continued)

First, a great deal of interaction with SAGE scientists and software developers is anticipated to verify that the instrument configuration is yielding the best possible science and that instrument effects on the data are understood.

Second, trend analyses will be carried out on a monthly schedule to verify that instrument performance has not changed. If performance changes are noted, plans will be developed and implemented to extend instrument life and/or maximize science.

Mission Support Activities
A number of mission support activities, not previously mentioned, are essential for successful SAGE III operations. Reliable communications is one activity.

SAGE expects NASCOM to support the ground networks necessary for reliable data transfer between LaRC and WFF for the Meteor 3M mission and between LaRC and MSFC for the ISS mission.

Similar support is expected for a FOO mission. Consultations in support of the definition and testing of communications links between the U.S. and Russia are also expected.

Support from the GSFC Flight Dynamics Facility (FDF) is also critical. The FDF is expected to support the development of solar/lunar planning aids and to support the development/validation of definitive orbit determination software algorithms compatible with GPS/GLONASS receiver data on-board the Meteor 3M spacecraft and with GPS-based GNC data available on-board the ISS.

Similar support for the development and validation of definitive orbit products is expected for a FOO mission.

Summary
SAGE III mission operation scenarios are expected to have more similarities than differences for the Meteor 3M/SAGE III mission, the ISS mission, and the FOO mission. The platform provider will be responsible for forward link activities. The ground receiving station(s) for a particular mission will be responsible for data capture, link quality monitoring, and short term raw data storage.

The SAGE III operations center will be responsible for level 0 processing, instrument operation, and the overall mission coordination necessary for successful SAGE III operations.
